Camera Filming Tips for Content Creators
What’s Worth It & What’s Hype?
Let me be real with you.
If you’re here, you’re probably asking yourself:
"Do I really need a fancy camera to make good content?"
And my answer is — not necessarily.
But if you do want that clean, crisp, chef's kiss type of content... the right camera can change the game for your brand.
So today we’re talking about the pros and cons of the top cameras content creators are using right now — especially for those of us filming for Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or your client content days.
These are the cameras I recommend (and have used or tested) for creators who want quality without a complicated learning curve.
1. 📸 DJI Osmo Pocket 3
The camera I call the sneaky genius.
🔥 Pros:
Super small and lightweight – fits in your bag, even your pocket.
Built-in gimbal = crazy smooth footage even when you’re moving.
Flip screen so you can see yourself while filming.
Great for vlogging or walking/talking content – looks professional without a crew.
👎 Cons:
Audio needs help – You will need a mic if you're filming talk-to-camera content.
Not great in low light – so don’t expect miracles in dim rooms.
File format can require a little extra editing time, especially if you're batching content.
Best for:
Vloggers, coaches, or service providers filming behind-the-scenes, tutorials, or quick BTS for Reels and TikTok.
Anyone who wants a portable second camera for content days or travel shoots.
2. 📸 Canon EOS R50
Aka The Clean Girl Content Creator Camera. If you love looking flawless on screen, keep reading.
🔥 Pros:
Auto-focus is amazing – it tracks your face so you stay sharp even if you move.
User-friendly menu – if you’ve never used a real camera before, you’ll still be fine.
Lightweight for a DSLR-style camera – still easy to travel with.
Great skin tones and color profile right out of the box (yes, even without filters 👀).
👎 Cons:
Battery life is just okay – keep a spare on you if you’re filming all day.
No headphone jack – which makes audio checks tricky unless you’re using an external recorder.
Best for:
Sit-down videos, lifestyle content, YouTube, high-quality Reels.
Anyone wanting that soft glam, crisp vibe without needing to be a full-time videographer.
3. 📸 Sony ZV-E10
The YouTuber’s Favorite. Great if you’re ready to level up.
🔥 Pros:
Interchangeable lenses – gives you full control over your look and depth of field.
Auto background blur feature is chef’s kiss for interviews, tutorials, or beauty content.
Great low-light performance – helpful if you’re not filming in a studio setup.
👎 Cons:
You have to learn the settings a bit – not super plug-and-play out the box.
The body is affordable, but lenses can get pricey depending on the look you’re going for.
Overheats sometimes with long 4K shoots – not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind.
Best for:
Full-time content creators, YouTubers, or business owners who want cinematic quality.
Beauty creators or med spa owners who film treatments or tutorials and want those aesthetic shots.
Honorable Mentions:
📱 iPhone 14+ or newer
Let’s not play — the newer iPhones are out here doing damage.
Pros: Portable, always with you, 4K ready, cinematic mode.
Cons: You still need good lighting and stabilization to get that pro look.
If you’re on a budget, start here — but treat your phone like a real camera: use a tripod, clean your lens, get good lighting, and stop filming with your face halfway cut off 😭
💡 My Filming Tips (No Matter What Camera You Use):
ALWAYS clean your lens – you'd be shocked how dusty your footage looks otherwise.
Use natural light or softbox lighting – don’t rely on overhead lights, it’s giving ‘conference room at 9PM’ and not in a good way.
Use a mic – whether you’re using a lav mic, shotgun mic, or even your iPhone headphones, good audio makes or breaks your video.
Film horizontal and vertical – you can repurpose everything across YouTube, Reels, and TikTok.
